Personally take tomorrow to really read into it.
Someone recently came into the fourms trying to brick there phone and he couldn't do it, he thought he did, but after 14 hours of letting it charge it seemed to work.

Just take it one step at a time.
I'd advise you to copy your sd card to the desktop and leave your sd card blank so everything you do will be placed at the root and you own't have to worry about it.
The root of an sd card is the very top left.

    I didn't know this for awhile :/

    Copy the dreaming file.
    Do the steps
    Turn off
    power + camera
    read around
    Action button.
    Don't touch it.

Then when its completely finished I never got it to reboot on its own, I always had to take the battery out.

From there you're running rc33 and have root.

Then look into which build you want I'd suggest using jf's 1.5 for a first time root just to get a good feel and its not that hard.

But for the hero rom you need someone elses build, a new spl and the latest radio so it all adds up to be a task.

And most importantly make sure you have plenty of battery life, I always root at 100% not that it drains the battery much you just don't want the battery to die on you in the process.

Installing the SPL before the radio image right crazythunder?

And the power and camera thing wont work, do I hit them both at once or what?

Don't flash the current hero ROM that is out if you want a smooth running slick UI like the the new demo videos. You will be very unhappy. Don't get me wrong it is a nice Rom
but it is very buggy and not smooth at all. In my opinion this ROM will never work great on the G1 as the g1 does not have enough RAM to handle it correctly. But if you don't have an issue with having to do apps2sd and overclocking it to make it run just decent. Then try it! I have it, But I don't mind the errors and force closes. And to be clear, there is NO ROM available that is exactly like the one in the videos. I would think about the ROM we do have as very very BETA.

correct, kinda. that, and installing the 1.33.2005 spl with a dvt board will most likely brick your phone.
yes, hold camera, but just press power, no need to hold power.

I am the one that could not "brick" my phone and I stall have had no luck doing so. But there are plenty of stories out there of bricked phones (mostly from flashing on a DVT board) So be careful!

I think someone was misinformed and thinks the actual Root on the SDCARD is at the top left of the ... (umm you know like when you mount the sdcard to the comp and open it up) I think they mean the top left in there.

All you have to do is power the phone off.
hold the camera + power buttons
and it will say on the screen that pops up either PVT or DVT
