how do i use nandroid?
ok can someone explain to me how nandroid works? or how to make it work? i know its been asked before and they get redirected to the xda post but i dont understand half of that post if not all!
so i have the hard SPL,SDK, and the nandroid backup can i get a step by step or something, or a simplified post of that thread lol

Exactly how I feel about nandroid man... but everyone just says 'search' or give me a link...
Everyone expects you to understand the text as if we are computer programmers.
There's no point so I don't even bother with nandroid anymore. I just stick with JFvMOD.

i know how u feel man, i kinda understand it i just need this said "fastboot windows application"
im just really tempted to try the magic build but i wanna go back to how i have it now if i really dont like it, or something goes wrong

it looks intimidating, but it's actually pretty easy. you can simply copy and paste the commands into the command prompt window. when you do use nandroid, it makes a complete backup to your sd card. i'll go look for the post and see if iu can simplify it a little.
On Phone
What you need on your phone:
- JesusFreke's RC Mods installed (example JFv1.42_RC33)
- SPL installed (example HardSPL)
Backing up Phone
- Boot into recovery(home+power)
- Press Alt+B to start Nandroid (files are stored on SD card, note: it may be over 100 megabytes)
- Reboot (Home+ Back) this is pretty self explanatory
On Computer
What you need on your computer:
- Fastboot Windows application
- Android USB driver installed . plug your phone in to pc with usb debugging enabled. do not mount the sdcard to the pc!!!(device manager > ADB interface > manually select the folder with the driver) you'll need to download the android sdk from here http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.1_r1/index.html
extract it anywhere. go to the root of your c drive. make a folder called android. inside the android sdk is a folder called tools. copy all the files from that to the android folder you just created. also, place fastboot.exe into thew android folder.
Find these in your phone's SD card and put them in your computer: place all 3 of these files directly in the android folder you created
- data.img
- system.img
- boot.img
Steps to restore your phone
1) Create a folder in your C: drive
_______a) name it android.
_______b)Replace C with another drive letter if needed.
2) Put these files all into android
_______a) fastboot.exe
_______b) system.img
_______c) data.img
_______d) boot.img
3) Unplug the USB cord. Power off your phone
4) Power up by holding CAMERA+POWER (you should see three androids on skateboards.)
5) Plug the USB cord. Press back on phone. (The screen on your phone should say fastboot)
6) Make sure your pc is using the correct driver.(device manager > ADB interface).. don't panick, you don't need to start over.
7) Enter the Command Prompt (Start > Run > type cmd (If you are on Vista just type cmd in the search box and hit enter).
8) Then enter the following commands:
you can copy and paste these directly into the command prompt window. press enter after each command
cd C:\android
fastboot flash system system.img it will say SENDING, then WRITING and say OKAY if it was successful
fastboot flash userdata data.img wait for the second OKAY
fastboot flash boot boot.img wait for the second OKAY
fastboot reboot
Your phone should now be restored exactly as you had it when it was backed up. you'll have a folder on your sd card named nandroid. inside that5 is a folder containing your backup. rename it accordingly(jf1.42 etc) so you know what backup you're restoring. underlined,bold stuff is my editing. i don't think it could be made any more simplistic.

you have to login to xda to get the fastboot file. unless someone knows of another spot. the fastboot link in the original post seems to be down.
fastboot is what you need to backup your phone. thats all i know
