Phone broken??

Hi,

I've got a rooted European G1 running JF's ADP1.5 firmware.
This worked fine for over a month

But now for some time I've been experiencing a situation where my touchscreen would not be responding. I could use the trackball for doing everything, but the touchscreen woudln't respond, after a reboot or even pushing the power button to make the phone go into 'sleep' mode and waking it again could solve it.

But today suddently it doesn't work at all anymore.
Even more, when I try to use the trackball to launch the dialer app, i get the following error:
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.".

I tried wiping the phone, which got me the welcome screen saying to 'tap the android' which was not possible because my touchscreen was still not working. At this screen when pushing the emergency dialer button using the trackball, i got a similar "stopped unexepectedly" message...

After that I used adb to copy the JF1.5_ADP image to /sdcard/update.zip and flashed this image again (pushing home + power and then ALT-S). But still the problem would persist.

Currently I'm back at the initial situation since i was able to restore a Nandroid backup from some weeks ago. But still can't use the touchscreen and getting stopped unexpectedly errors :s

Is there anything more I can do besides a re-flash of the update.zip?? Or could it be a real hardware problem??
I'd appreciate a quick response since this problem renders my phone utterly useless...

That's exactly what I'm dealing with and have not found a cure yet. Difference being, I was running Cyanogen's 4.999 experimental.
I ran it for a solid week before I picked it up one day and the touchscreen had died and trying to open Dialer or Contacts (via trackball) gives me the android process acore has stopped unexpectedly error. I do hope someone finds a cure for this and if you do_ let me know please.

Download amons recover image and flash it then fix all the permissions?

Have Cyanogens recovery and have run fix permissions but it didn't help. I think (having read the logs) that I'm having some sort of touch screen driver failure. Not sure yet.
Is there any way to re-flash the kernel? and if there is, where can I get the kernel image?
