In my opinion mate i wouldnt even try doing that its really not worth it unless its already damaged and you have no other option i.e under warranty.

I would make a video on how to open her up but as i said before mine doesnt work anymore so im not sure if it would be of any help....

Quick update guys, decided to open up my g1 again this time i was going to film it for you guys but couldnt get my webcam working :S, i ran out of time trying to get it working as after this last go at my g1 i was just going to go start a new contract with tmobile and get another even though my bank balance suggested i really shouldnt. Anyway i opened her up for the fourth time! (im pretty much an expert at opening them now so if anyone needs help just pm me ). Everything was in place and i really couldnt see anything wrong so i just put it back together. Tried to turn her on and to my amazement it turned on! so far so good! havnt tried charging it yet though as im a bit weary as to whether that caused it to go funny last time. I really would like to make a video of how to take it apart but as its working for the moment im sure youll understand that it wouldnt be a good idea to start taking it apart again. With the full new housing its looking brand new! hopefully it will carry on working, ill keep you guys posted....

Ok guys for those of you who care im back!, my phones really wierding out on me again touchscreen stopped working, battery stopped charging, and phone stopped turning on. Ive been fiddling with it for ages now and ive noticed something really really strange. If i slighty pull away the top of my battery (about 1mm) from its position when its sat in my phone, my phone turns on and touchscreen works fine but if i push it back into the phone properly the phone stays on but the touchscreen stops working, if i pull it back away slightly again it starts working again. Now can anyone explain that!... thanks

you have a loose connection either under the battery or close under the area of the motherboard

Thumbs up Re: Results of my "Custom G1 Housing Change"

I was practically given a white G1 off a friend when he got his my touch. The housing was horribly scratched and looked like a dog had chewed on it. So I bought the all white UK version of the G1 off of eBay and attempted to swap housings. I knew it looked pretty tough but as long as I made sure I took my time and made sure my connections were solid I'd be ok. My first attempt to power up gave me a solid black screen. I disassembled everything, even the lcd, this time much faster, and made sure all connections were secure. Second power on attempt...it works. Made sure all buttons trackball, and most importantly touchscreen worked. Perfect! Went to test the camera. Force Close. Went back to my camera connection and made sure it was secure this time. Third power on attempt. Voilą! Everthing works. Only thing I notice That is different is the LED is a tad bit dimmer then it was previously. Other than that all I have to say is if you attempt this don't be discouraged, back track and MAKE SURE all of your connections are secure! Good Luck!

you must have forgotten the black rubber that goes around the LED light. the rubber helps contain the light within that one spot so it gives you a brighter light.

did you not get the swivel screen back part?

I thought for sure I had that rubber piece was in there. The hinge back is actually sold separately than the rest of the housing.
