Alright, I found out that the process does include the recovery 1.4, and the radio flash is built into the 4.2.5 update process.
It's fun when you actually get time to read into more detail when your kid goes to sleep!
I'm going to follow this link to put CM Mod 4.2.5 on my g1:

I have a few questions though. I've searched this forum and XDA, but it's insane trying to thumb through all the crap to get real answers, so I'll just ask!
Does the above mentioned process include a new radio version? Also does it include the recovery 1.4? What exactly does it include? Do I really need to do the SPL part? And what are the advantages from going to ext4 over ext3?
Again, I don't wanna piss anyone off by asking these questions. I've been a lurker here for a long time and I see people do REALLY dumb stuff and get "yelled at" for it. I respect the knowledge of the people here and feel most comfortable asking about this here. I don't feel quite geeky enough to ask on XDA haha.
Thanks for your help!
P.S. I may think of more questions. Yes. There may be more. They may be stupid. Just a warning.
Edit: Told you I may think of more. Do my contacts get re-synced from Google after doing this? Is there a way to get a backup of my contacts if not?

Yes your google contacts will be resynced when you log back in also any paid apps you will be able to redownload those again.
Thanks for the info!
By "included" I mean that the instructions for installing the CM Recovery 1.4 are included on that page. What about the SPL and the ext3 vs ext4?
If you do Haykur's spl you will save about 10mb internal phone storage, you will need Haykuro's spl to run the Hero roms. The instructions are on the page to flash it through the terminal. The difference between ext3 and ext4 are neligible. You can upgrade to ext4 from both of the recovery images, 1.4 you have to enter a script and on the RA it does it automatically.
Awesome. Thanks for the help so far. I have one more question.
I've read about fix_permissions but have no idea if I'll need it for anything with CM 4.2.5. Do I? Or is it included/integrated in the CM ROM?
Jimmah, you are definitely not being annoying, as stated in your first post. That is why AC is here, to help out and answer questions. And, you have one of our great staff members, ggrant, helping you. He is pretty amazing.
Last question (for now), what version of fix_permissions? I found the thread at XDA and seems 1.31 is the best for now. the 2.0+ are experimental.
get amon recovery img 1.3.2 it will have the latest stable fix_permissions and anything you will need is just a click away
Noobs look here for root info
Need android downloads??
