Hi all,
I have a general question as the title says. I use Linux on my desktop pcs and on my laptop. I used to use Gentoo so I kind of know how to deal with a Unix system.
Anyway. I wonder why it is that hard to get root access to a device where you have physical access to. Usually with Unix based systems this is no problem. Isn't it possibible to access the internal memory while connected to usb?
Michael
what are the advantages to having root access? and once u have it do you find it hard to deal without?

I like having "options"
So it's up to me to customize what I want on my phone or not
And I haven't done much to it, as of yet... but I'm sure it'll happen.

you'll learn a lil code if you do it for any of the reasons listed for rooting.
as for cupcake rumors they never freed up any of my phone's storage.
They don't want you to have root access because most people who have a G1 don't fully understand how much damage they can do with "root" and would end up bricking their phones..
