after rc30 update my edge icon has been replaced

I believe I'm still running on edge, however after the updatee the E that stood for edge up in the status bar has been replaced with a G. I know its not 3G. So what does this mean

I believe its slower than edge ?

G stands for GPRS which is much slower then EDGE.

Hmm I don't notice any speed difference, still pretty fast,interesting........
