Default Changing your main G1/Google account password

I needed to change my gmail password for security reasons, but I knew this would mess with the G1 account too, since they use the same login info. I searched for a way to change/update the password on the phone and couldn't find it. So, on a whim I went to google.com/accounts on the browser, signed in, then clicked on "Change Password". After changing it successfully, I went back to the Home Screen on the phone, opened the GMail app, clicked on Menu, then Refresh. I got a sync error, but the notification gives an option to re-enter your password. I entered the new password, and voila, it worked.

Kind of a round-about way of doing it, too bad there isn't an option on the phone itself to change the account password. Maybe in some future update there will be an option to do it.

Anyway, hope this info helps someone who's looking to change their password too.

    good info,

but i think they designed it like this so if you got your phone "stolen/lost" you HAVE a way to change your password via online rather than you phone cause obvious your phone is stolen/lost =D

Well, you've ALWAYS have the option of changing it online, regardless. As far as the stolen phone, that's what the security pattern screen is for. As long as the hypothetical "change password" option requires you to input your current password, as it does when you change it online, someone stealing your phone won't be able to lock you out of your own account since they won't know the current password. So I still see no reason not to offer the option on the phone.

It is fairly easy, but not intuitive to reset the Google account information without reseting everything else on your Android phone. Go to the Applications area of settings and choose "Manage Aps" to locate three applications; GMail, Google Apps and GMail Storage. Open GMail and, if needed, "Force stop" then "Clear data." Open Google Apps and if needed, "Force stop" it, but don't clear data. Finally, "Clear data" on GMail Storage. Exit back to Home and open the GMail app to re-enter your Google account info.

This works on legend with android v 2,1.

Before doing a factory reset try logging into gmail with browser. Mine picked up the password change.

Nice and easy as I'd hoped.
