hopefully i got this in the right forum..anyways
this is my first phone with a data plan,what happens with the data plan when im roaming? like say the push gmail and such? there are a few spots that i go to weekly that i may be roaming on cingular or what not.
theres an option to turn off data when roaming on the G1, I'm not really sure what tmobile charges for roaming data if that's what you're asking, I've always disabled it on all my phones.
yeah that answers it pretty much..i have also been trying to see what they charge,but i can only find info on international roaming..oh well,i will just turn it off
I believe Tmo does not charge for roaming. Don't know if the 3G net will work. I just drove across country last month and was "roaming" alot. Talked to a service rep and he said no roaming because Tmo "does not have coverage nationwide". I never saw a roaming charge on my bill.

weird cause i talked with an online rep from t-mobile and they said they charge additional fees for data roaming... maybe its just the online support isnt as reliable i dont know... ill have to see if i can confirm anything...
If you leave the G1 on automatic in the US you should *NOT* be getting billed for data roaming in the US. If you are in an area where you *WILL* roam regularly if you are paranoid you can check with customer care.
However if you roam outside the US (Canada, Mexico or anywhere else)- even if your phone roams inadvertently onto a Canadian or Mexican network near the border YOU WILL be subject to data roaming charges. You may want to turn off data roaming and just use WiFi in those cases - or shut off AutoSync...
NickP is right.
But I am having trouble to locate the turn data off switch. I can set it to "use only 2G networks" but have not found the 'turn data off'.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,

It's under Settings->Wireless Controls->Mobile Networks.
Then uncheck Data Roaming.

PS see this link if you're traveling to the UK or any other country that has its own national T-Mobile service as the G1 may be confused and not realize you're roaming when you are. According to Wikipedia, these countries may include Austria, Germany, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Slovakia, (and the UK).

I have roamed before on various carriers and have never been charged for data.
