Eris or Droid?

My first post...yeah!

Likely I am posting this in the wrong forum because I am really struggling but leaning toward an Eris vs a Droid. Just a couple of my reason and one question....I don't care for a slide out keyboard, I like the styling of the Eris, I really like the Sense UI.

Here is my biggest question....will or does the Hero/Eris support the same type of GPS usage the Droid does with Google Maps? Anyone know?

i don't know exactly i've only heard a little about the google maps add ons, but from what i have read about the maps application it should be an android wide thing, and not droid exclusive. hope that helps a little.

I have been doing more research and from what I can tell the complete Turn-by-Turn functionality of Google Maps should be in the Hero/Eris with Android 2.0?

yeah i do think the turn by turn is a 2.0 thing. so every phone should have it in time.

first off welcome to AC.... and second my moms just got a hero(sense UI) and loves it. i highly recomend you get the eris.

How ya doin, Rocket? Newbie here, too. I'm leaning towards the Eris as well. Same reasons as you.
To add to your question, where is the Eris forum at? It is a HTC phone yet not in the HTC forum. Mods, can you please add the Eris to....wherever you want it to go? Thanx.

The Droid ships with Android 2.0 and will have the new Google Maps with turn-by-turn directions. Eris ships with Android 1.5 and will not initially have turn-by-turn (it will prob be upgraded to 2.0 once HTC gets their version of SenseUI ready for 2.0).

Also- the Droid will have the car cradle option for GPS use where the Eris does not.

I am definitely going for the Droid; it has an awesome 480x854 screen (Eris is 360x480), better processor, graphics accelerator, and generous amounts of ROM/RAM.

I know the Droid is "better" but I am not into the form factor at all. However, I would love to have that car dock. What are the chances they update the Eris/Hero to 2.0 and do not include Turn-by-Turn similar to the notes that the Droid will not have TbT in Europe?

I plan on doing a hands on look tomorrow at 7am at Verizon. I know the Eris will be much better than my agin BB Curve so how can I lose out?
