Default G1 apps stored internally - anyone have better feeling on implications?

Another thing still nagging me (not nearly as much as the video worries) is the fact that the apps seem to all be saved on the internal memory.

Does anyone have knowledge or strong belief (please indicate which in replies) on what will happen when the limited internal memory is full?

The #1 selling point for me on the G1 is the App Marketplace. Free open source and I'm a dev myself... it pumps me up.

But what happens when larger install size applications appear or when I have too many apps? Think games too because game assets take up plenty of space. Will my G1 be already obsolete? I'm still hesitating on whether to get one for these aspects.

My friends iphone has a couple GBs of apps already so filling it up isn't theoretical... it will happen. The question is are there options to move them to sdcard? Even if they "break" when the card is removed, I'd feel a whole lot better knowing I can have more memory space available.

I have no doubt there will be a way for devs to determine where their stuff installs, or which elements of their apps should reside where (as in, the small app code itself in the phone memory, media/databases, movies, support files, etc. on the removable drive, etc.).
Besides, being open source, if this becomes a problem, it will be job #1 for someone to fix it, and there will be solutions readily available. Already, there is a lot of chatter about it, so either the devs aren't concerned because they know something we don't, or they're taking a wait and see approach, or people are probably already beginning to work on it. The source code for the OS hasn't been made available yet, and the hardware is just starting to trickle out (not even officially out anywhere yet), so I'm not concerned about this yet.

Agreed. If the OS only permits application storage on the internal flash, then that is quite limiting. If so, then I expect to quickly see a hack to the OS that symbolically links this area over to a directory on the microSD card. This is certainly something where having an open source should allow any such issues to be addressed quickly.

    We should know soon enough!

Watching one of the hands-on vids I constantly heard that question being asked. They said you are able to move it to SD card. Now as far as running it form that source, I'm not going to comment as I do not know.

And on these vids there were people running 36 apps (applications, not programs) and it handled just fine, and they were talking as if you can store more.

I honestly think you'll be fine, but you'll know for sure come October 22nd. I'm excited.

    Agreed.

App storage would be corrected if not at the get-go. Thats Android folks.

Im pretty sure there was a video where somebody tried to download an app and it said they had to insert an SD card.
