    Default G1 setup- Google account

I have the phone, and the data plan will be activated tomorrow (closed today) Is there any way to start up the phone (i.e. sync with Google account) without the data plan activated? I have an active Wi-Fi connection. The phone is pretty useless because I can't get beyond the setup phase.

Did you have a data plan with your old phone!? ( T-Mo )

If so, you should be able to with wifi...

I was able too until they switched me over to the G1 data plan.

I have a developer phone and no SIM yet. I canceled the regular registration screen, then went to settings to configure my Wifi. Once Wifi was up, I opened Gmail, which prompted me to provide my google account info. The G1 works great right now over Wifi.

Call your friends to see if someone has t-mobile and data plan. Borrow the sim card for 5 minutes.

No, you just have to wait. Took mine about 15 hours to activate. just be patient, its worth it.

One way to get that registration/activation dialog to come back up is opening up the gmail application, it will then pop up the activation dialog again. I had this issue and was looking all over the android settings and couldn't find it, came here, saw this unanswered forum, and then opened on the gmail on my phone on accident, so I am posting this reply to put up an answer for anyone else trying to get this resolved.
