Hello,
I tried to install the rc29 backtrack package so I could root my G1. I put the file on the SD card, cleared everything else off, and then I put it back in the phone and it installed. At the end of the install, it said error and now it won't do anything but bootloader. I tried putting rc30 back on it, I tried redoing the rc29 with a new file - nothing works!
My G1 is totally dead, and won't go anywhere but the bootloader. None of the standard commands for reset etc etc work at all. I'm obviously not focusing on the jailbreak anymore - I'm just looking to restore my phone.
Any ideas?
Did you try a battery pull?

If the phone is bricked, this instance will underline the importance of checking md5 checksums after downloading G1 updates! Very, very, important, especially if users have are using a poor USB cable and/or don't unmount their SD cards from their PCs properly!
Btw, I hope your G1 is back?

"checking md5 checksums"
you might as well be speaking Japanese... wtf does that mean? hahaha
I cursed myself for not using the MD5 the moment I realized what had happened! I was being careless.
Tiki, and MD5 checksum is long code that usually comes with download packages. It is a mathematical result based on the code in your package. If you download the package and the code is damaged somehow, the MD5 will come out as a different number when you calculate it. You need a program that will CHECK, the SUM (get it?).

No! Its definitely not. I'm still hoping for a fix. I need to either get a more fundemental way to restore my phone, or successfully get rc29 on it. I can't get it to run any installers except the one that went bad on it. I haven't tried getting a new copy of that though.. does anyone have a link to a rc29 reversion install thats good?
Have you tried the Home + Power boot after pulling the battery?
