help getting passed the gmail activation setup without tmobile

Hi guys,
im totally new to the android experience and i recently got a new tmbile G1, but problem is that i dont have tmobile network in my area ,no att either only networks i have are MTN, Glo and Zain and Etisalat and they all offer gprs services but i cant seem to get passed the mail activation even though i have goten the right APN settings for all networks set on my G1...its frustrating!!! isnt there any other way to just get the damn thing to work??
Plus i see the gprs logo flashing anytime i try but it always says problem trying to get google server pls and pls help me out

Just ignore the stuff about fastboot, all you need is to get adb running. It might take you a while to get it started though.
