HTC & Google contacts sync

Hello all.
Just got my greasy hands on a HTC Hero and lovin' it. I am a bit of a noob re: android so please forgive me if my first question has an easy answer.

I have used HTC to transfer my Outlook contacts to the phone as a one-off but even though I have "Sync Contacts" enabled (Home->Settings->Data Sync->Google->Contacts) on the phone I don't see these contact details when I log into Gmail on my Win PC and click contacts???

Incidentally my calendar syncs from Hero to Gmail/calendar perfectly.
Or am I doing something dumb?

Read the HTC Guides already - very basic but the stuff on androidcommunity Q&A looks interesting.
Not sure it applies to this problem but all info is good!
If anyone can suggest something I'll try it (legally)!

Yup, thats the tool I used to succesfully convert my Outlook contacts onto the Hero.

I still cant see the Hero contacts in Gmail contacts.

I just created a contact in Gmail, it doesn't appear on my phone!

Any ideas on how to resolve it...

So on your phone if you go
Menu-> Settings-> Data Sync-> Google, you have check marks in all the boxes?
Also on my phone right now it says sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.

Also, if you press the menu key in the Data Sync settings you can force it to sync immediately and see if that helps.

Yes, all buttons are on and I have synced manually and automatically.

However nothing is uploaded from phone to google account.

A full reset of the device did not make a difference.

Me begins to think that uploading has problems..

Fixed it by exporting from outlook as CSV and importing into Gmail

Works because I only did this to transfer info initially - I don't want it in Outlook ongoing.

I'd say import and export need looked at.
