Hi.
I'm currently on an O2 Online tariff, £35 a month gets me 600mins, 1000 txts and unlimited messages. The N95 8Gb I took out with the contract has gone to phone heaven due to a foam party. I was originally going to get an iPhone 3GS but I really like the look of the HTC Hero, SENSE UI looks amazing. My plan is to get a Black HTC Hero sim-free and when my contract finishes swapping my policy to a simplicity £15-20 a month contract.
The cheapest I've found the HTC Hero sim-free for is £400 on play.com, however they only have the white version. Does anyone know where I can preorder the black version for the same price?
Anyone? I see Amazon have pre-order for the HTC Hero sim-free now but again, only white & £30 dearer than www.play.com. I really want a black or grey one.
For now at least, only white is available unlocked. Other colors are reserved for provider versions.
At least you can get and use one. In the U.S. T-mobile uses 1700MHZ for 3G, which is non-standard to the rest of the world. So if I order an unlocked Hero - no 3G, only Edge. I have to wait and see if T-Mo ever offers a version over here. My guess is maybe a 50-50 chance of that.

I've seen other rumors of the Hero on Sprint, supposedly to take the place of the Pre as Sprint's hot 'exclusive' phone, since they'll only have an exclusive on the Pre for about 6 months. Jeez I hope not, that would be a waste of really nice phone on a really bad network. No way I'll ever go to Sprint for any reason, even though I'm in Sprint's hometown, near their World Headquarters.
I'm happy with the G1 for now. I can wait and see how this all shakes out. The MyTouch is nice but isn't tempting enough without a hard keyboard, I'd miss that. But I admit, the Hero is just soooo slick I'd go for it in a minute even wihout a keyboard.

Yeah, I think if the Hero had a texttile keyboard, it would be the perfect Android phone to date, haha.
But the specs and that HTC Sense UI make me want it even without the keyboard, I could really care less about the HTC Magic, cause if you're going to go with all touch, just go with the better phone, the Hero! Although the Magic and the Hero share the same specs, the Hero boasts the HTC Sense UI.
Other things equal, I'm usually swayed by the phone with the best hardware. In this case The Hero and Mytouch/Magic have basically the same specs, both pretty close to state-of-the-art and both run Android 1.5. I'm really not interested in all the widget-based 'social networking' stuff in the Sense UI. I mean, I don't tweet or Facebook, etc.
Nah, I'll 'fess up - I want the Hero over the MyTouch/Magic simply 'cause it looks sooo good. And though I probably won't use many of the extra features of Sense, it looks great too.
But both look good and have good specs and if at contract time there's nothing else introduced with a real keyboard I could keep my G1 or go for either the MyTouch or Hero and be happy.

Yes, I must admit, I am a little dissapointed with T-Mobile about that, every one of my friends on pretty much any other major provider gets better signal than I do, with the exception of a few spots, and they all have 3G while I'm still running on EDGE, unless I'm in L.A./Hollywood.
The only reason why I'm really on T-Mobile is because that's what my dad got for me like 4/5 years ago, so here I am, still on T-Mobile. I may or may not change providers within a year's time though, because I'll be joining the Air Force towards the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010.
