Well, I also had Gmail account before the Android even thought bout coming out. So what I do is add any new contact thru my Gmail, when I get my MyTouch3G it will sync from my gmail account. I also have a mac as well so i don't use my Address book to sync my addresses because its not really accurate either. Sorry i couldn't help any mac users on that end and I do prefer the MacDroid vers MaciPhone combination.
