Android is awsomee... but what is this crap hardware...my screens about fall off...it squeaks... only 65k color screen...no headphone jack...
Ill be surprised if this phone lasts me 6 months let alone the 2 year contract i have on it. This is a totally unexpected quality from HTC. What do you guys think?
This is true, but the build design of the phone was not too smart. The screen opening mechanicism won't last for some people... it's the first generation device, sooner or later it is going to get better and there is going a lot of other phones out there that run android.
In the meantime, here are your options
a. sell the phone, buy an iPhone, and join their ranks and forums
b. live with the G1. It is what it is. Accept it (i.e. stop complaining) and move on.
c. sell the G1, wait for the 'next-gen' from other manufacturers with the hope that hardware build quality will be improved.
None of here will be able to help you address the hardware problems you're experiencing, so telling us what we already know isn't helping matters. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, but this has been whinging week at the Android Community with a record number of people whinging post-sale of their G1, absence of Adobe Flash, MS Office viewers and editors, etc etc![]()

yeah and i am definitely looking forward to a next gen G1 or something from another manufacturer...maybe even sony ericsson. But this was not a first generation phone for HTC... they have been producing slide out keyboard phones for years...and yet they messed up on the first android powered phone. Instead they could have taken androids hype to make a great hardware that would impress everyone and take on the iphone head on...
Already saving up for the next-gen hardware, but I've got a opened-to-be-unlocked, pre-RC30 unit if anyone wants one![]()

seems like some people join AC just to complain about some bs! most dont even have 10 post, & never offer any help or solutions.
actually its not that bad of a build as far as being cost effective... now the g1 could have been more solid like the tmo wing was or the touch pro, but that would boost the cost for the device making it around 299 even with a 2yr contract..
tmobile is trying to maintain its affordable nationwide cell phone company image down to the hardware. I wish the device could be more solid but at the same fold i didnt want to pay 299 for a device thats brand new with a brand new operating system with a brand new 3g network and be disappointed. The 179 pricepoint for the g1 with a 2yr agreement is good to give new and current customers a taste of what the android platform is about and also to get the experience of the 3g network. There will probably be another android device released to tmobile in the later part or 2009 or early 2010 ( based on there pocket pc release history ).

Wasn't HTC's decision, Google had standards, they told HTC what they wanted and HTC manufactured it to what Google wanted. Makes sense that google didn't want to max out everything for their first phone. They made it standard enough so the hardware was capable of doing what it needed to. They're focusing more on the new "Android OS" there will be plenty of batter built phones by HTC in the future carrying Android.
