I have been one of the people complaining about the battery life...it seems not even 10 mins after coming off the charger the battery percentage is already down to 94%. This is horrible, at least with the Wing it wouldn't hit 50% until after i was out of work.
Well yesterday i had the phone plugged in most of the day at work so when i left work it was around 70%, I did some wallpaper changes and whatnot from home but didn't have it plugged in the whole time seeing that you can't access the SD card while charging on USB. I shut off all radios except for 3G and by 1am my phone was down to 7%. I wanted to see how much battery 3G actually used so i started browsing this site on the browser and by 1:10am the battery was at 2%, i wanted to see if Android would shut itself off at 1% or something so kept browsing. I know how much Linux hates being turned off improperly and figured Android would be the same. So i continued browsing waiting for the battery to give out. Well at 1:48am it was still at 2%. I kept browsing on 3G until 2:30am and the battery was still at 2%. I am starting to think maybe the battery life is better then what we think, its just the phone doesn't know the true battery level. This weekend i am going to try and kill the battery completely then let it charge for the 12 hours i have heard people talking about.
Has anyone else tried doing anything like this? The first day i got it i didn't charge it for the 12 hours like people said it should be, i let it charge maybe 2 hours. I played with it until the battery was at 5% then put it on the charger for about 7 hours over night and that's basically what i have been doing since i got the phone on Monday.
Friday i plan on using it until it actually shuts itself off. Then i am going to let it charge for the 12 hours i was told it should get. This way I can see if the battery life really sucks, or Android just sucks at calculating the charge!

I charge mine once a day for maybe 3 hours, and it receives lots of heavy use throughout the day, and by the time i go to charge it again it might be anywhere from 30-50%. I can live with that. Definately hasn't come close to dying on me while I'm out and about.
I charged mine last night around 8. Played the mem game from 9-930. Went to sleep, woke up, immediately got on and checked for new apps, sent some texts, emails, browsed the weather. Came to work, checked for new apps, sents some text, emails, calls, etc. It's still at 90%.
I have charged mine while sleeping... just leaving it plugged in!! Then when I get up in the morning everything is good to go... last me all day.
i read its not good to overcharge the battery (leaving it plugged in all night) does it have a kill switch feature that will stop charging it and run off usb power once it's fully charged?
I fully charged mine, and then tried to kill it -- took a REALLY long time tooThat last 10% lasts for hours, literally.
T-Mobile Customer Care rep said not to charge it for more than 4 hours...
I'm having horrible battery issues. Battery says 6%...i plug it in...then 2 seconds later it says 56% -- sending Brown G1 back.
getting a new Black one at a retail store. (i like the keyboard better, and hopefully this one has a magic battery.)
im sure the battery level last a long time at the end because they want you to plug the phone in. I know these battery's arent supposed to be drained, unless conditioning every so often. That being said, if I need to use the end of the battery I will, but if I can plug the phone in, I will do that.

I did notice my last 15% lasted an extremely longtime yesterday (over an hour). That's pretty interesting. I wonder what's going on.
Here are the facts (as I have tried each) from what I am seeing:
1. Fully charging the phone out of box does not help any.
2. That battery memory reset does not work either (the one where you fully charge the battery and then fully drain it).
3. GPS is not what's draining my battery fast.
4. Anytime 3G is enabled and actively searching\using a network, you can see the battery literally drain 1% every 2-3 minutes or so.
Last night while at home on a 15% charge, I used my home WIFI and had GPS on for over an hour of actively using the phone (on Google Maps).
Yeah, I can definitely see that 3G is the culprit in whats draining my battery rapidly. I'll be using 2G when I'm not actively using my phone for anything. It would be nice if T-Mobile could allow an option for the phone to remain in 2G when inactive or performing actions that require low internet speeds due to fast performance on the 2G network. Then the phone could automatically connect to a 3G network if it notices a particular action is not performing as fast under the 2G network, switching automatically to 3G to gain the needed internet speed.
people are getting weird results w/ their batteries. I was on my G1 all day yesterday playing around w/ it and didn't need to recharge until approx 6pm'ish. But that was with some heavy usage. I'm logging all my usage and battery life today so i'll update everyone on my usage.

I could live with that type of battery life, What did you do the first day you had it? Do you turn off GPS, 3G and anything else? I have 3G and GPS on right now and my battery seems to be just as bad as yesterday, which i had just 3G on then. But its about 1pm and my battery is at 49%, I unplugged it at 8:15am this morning. Sounds like our usage is about the same eRoc.
