    Default iTunes songs on G1

    Hi,

Is there any way to get Itunes songs into the G1's mem card? Do they have to be converted and if so, any idea how to do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Bernd

I'm afraid you are screwed my friend if you bought the songs directly from iTunes they are protected and won't work in non apple devices.. If you imported discs you have the choice to what format they import into.. That helps.. Buying music in Itunes sucks I learned that the hard way.

Aren't there any programs which would allow you to convert the file types?

    hi,

If you want play itunes song to G1, you must convert it to mp3 not to m4a.

If you have buy song to the iTunes store, you must burn an Audio cd and re-import it to mp3 ! (all the protection are disabled!)

You can convert a M4a to mp3 directly in iTunes. Go to itunes -> preferences -> general : and you can choose the encoded format. After, select the song you want, right click on it -> (sorry in french for me) creation de la version mp3... in english, i think: convert to mp3 or create an mp3 version (something like this... it's the 5th item in the list for me)

    ;-)
    Oups, sorry,
I speak English as a politician is honest

Thank you Vince, but I am getting an error message saying that protected files cannot be converted to MP3. Any ideas?

I bought a program called SoundTaxi that is awesome. I finally got so tired of trying to trick the files into being converted or burning discs and everything else. It is worth the $20 especially because of all the $$ I spent on the music. It removes the DRM and converts the music to mp3.

lol- this is one of the reasons I stopped buying music from iTunes; the iTunes songs use DRM (digital rights management) and technically it is illegal for you to try to remove the copy protection from them (under the DMCA).

From the RIAA's point of view, you do not own the songs you purchased from iTunes- you licensed the right to play the songs on Apple hardware/software with Apple DRM (I believe it is called 'FairPlay'); if you decide to use a non-Apple product you need to re-purchase the appropriate version. (and it doesn't hurt Apple that you are locked into an iPod-only format)

Sound Taxi should work (I think it changes your sound driver to allow it to re-capture the music) or burning to CD and re-ripping as MP3 will also work. At one time there was a great piece of software called QTFairUse, but I think this only worked with earlier versions of iTunes 7 and Apple has 'fixed' later versions to render it inoperable.

For future purchases, I would recommend purchasing a non-DRM format (MP3 is good) that will work on any media player; Amzaon.com, eMusic and WalMart.com (to name a few) sell songs in this format.

Ok you can try Amazon from now on, bc they have DRM free music, or you can do a little websearch and pay 20$ to get software like Sound Taxi or Tunebite. I'm quite familiar with Tunebite and it's definitely an application worth getting if you have tons of tracks that need to be DRM free.

*If you download more than 15 tracks per month on iTunes I recommend getting Napster. You get unlimited downloads for a small monthly fee. + Napster is legal!
