Default "No Connection" error when using gmail

When I use the "gmail" app on my G1 I get a "No Connection" error. I can access my gmail account using the "email" app. Everything else on my phone works as before (internet, gps, sms, etc.). This occurred about 2 days ago and has been like that ever since. Anyone else experiencing this?

I am experiencing the same issue several of my email show up when I open gmail, but the bottom message is blank and reads no connection with a retry button that does nothing. Also my Gmail is not syncing. It does work on wifi however. Also i am not able to receive 3g at my home where I am right now. I know I have 3g here.

    and help would be great

    Thanks Much

    I've had the same problem-

Do this, open the Notifications drop-down (very top of the screen, where all the icons are), and when the list has expanded, look for one labeled something like "Login error, tap here to login again".

Tap that line, it will ask for your password, and log you in.

I get exactly the same issue WIFI is fine but i only get 2G at home but at work i get 3G (made no difference). After connecting with WIFI it gets all the emails soon as it relies on 2G or 3G it no longer works.

I think this happened after cupcake update? Obviously somethin got broke cause there aint no notifications like this other dood is saying.

Never mind thank god the email app works fine

I fixed my problem by going to the manage applications screen and deleting all the data in the gmail app. It worked fine after that. Hope this helps someone.

Hi. You lose nothing. That's why Gmail especially on an Android phone is so slick. The phone will just sync up everything again.

It happened to me the other week when Gmail was down for an hour or so.

    Here's the official solution:

When I go to the manage applications screen, it says "You do not have any third-party applications installed" nothing else on screen

But I did get the initial 3 messages from Gmail

I use a Samsung Galaxy. I realised that my Gmail application was not connecting to the server after I had tried to upload a video via gmail. From that moment on a connection error icon was displayed in my gmail. The solution is to to go to your phone´s Settings, then click Applications followed by Manage Application. Scroll down to Gmail Storage and click on it. Once opened, click on clear data. Afterwards, go back to the applications menu and scroll down to Google Mail. Open it and click Clear Data. Your Gmail should now work after it reboots.
