Go to the sms thread, open it up, and you can tap on someone's part of the thread and it will highlight orange. LONG TAP on the portion of the thread you want to forward and options will appear. You can call, forward, view details, or delete.

how long do you have to initially charge the phone? I've seen answers ranging from 1 hour, 3 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours. There is nothing in the book, or quick start guide. What's the definitive answer?

When I got my phone, I plugged it in right away and let it charge to about 95%. Then I started messing with it and drained it down to about 2%. I shut it down and charged it overnight for about 8 hours. It's been running just fine since then.

yes it has the built in GPS, however you can optionally turn on/off that GPS antenna's. they run down your battery more. The general gps works, it'll pinpoint you within a mile or so, however if you have the real GPS turned on, its accurate to the parking stall your sitting in. i tried it. amazing. however in the options, it'll tell you it runs the battery a lil more.

i'm unfortunatly paying extra 35 for the data plan, even tho denver is still on edge, not even a 3g network yet. trust me, 2002 i had a nasty $500+ phone bill for text messages....i'll gladly pay a measly 35bucks anytime than approaching a monthly bill that high ever.

i haven't tried wi-fi, but it has it available.

does the phone switch views when turning it?
can you send and receive picture messages and video like the sidekick lx?
how much is the 8gb card?[so upset the g1 only comes with 1gb]
can you upload your own ringtones to the phone?
does it have picture id for contacts and as much info storage as the sidekick lx?
how restricted is the web service?

is there a flash for the camera?

i just read somehwere that the phone does not do video.. think this will be a fix?i dont see how a new phone cant do video when so many standard phones can.
i've been a sidekick user for 4 years and used to the features. i'm really tempted to take this g phone back because of some missing standard features. your questions & my opnion....
    1.)

can you play myspace apps on the g1 like the iphone?
    A) not sure about the apps, but its got its own widget program of myspace to download & access without going on theinternet or using the browser. kinda cool for quick replies.

    2.)
does the phone switch views when turning it?
    sure does

3.) can you send and receive picture messages and video like the sidekick lx?
**yes, however there's no obvious foward button to foward any messaages. how lame is that to overlook a foward feature on text message. and you can't save the pictures/attachements in SMS. if so...no on in this forum has informed me. My main frustration. .....i just found it. its not on the menu function, they made the foward all fancy. if you touch the screen & hold it for 2-3 seconds, options pop up to foward it. Odd that its not in the menu option functions on the actual button options that pop up. However another pet peeve, there's no obvious recycle bin. i accidently deleted ALL of my text messages. no recylce bin to retrieve them. If you wanna save the picture, send it to yourself via email. get the attachement that way. LAME.

4.) how much is the 8gb card?[so upset the g1 only comes with 1gb]
it comes w/ 1gb, go to pricewatch.com and find an 8gb.

    5.)
can you upload your own ringtones to the phone?
havn't gotten this far yet, not sure.

    6.)
does it have picture id for contacts and as much info storage as the sidekick lx?

yes on the picture. Yes on lots of info, however its not all listed in their info at first. you have to do a pulldown of each heading ie address a.) work, b.) home, c.) other. same for email & subheadings, IM & subheadings, LAME...no birthday field.

7.) how restricted is the web service?
um...open. i dont' see any odd limitations. just it'll run slowly if your not on a 3g. i'm on the edge and youtube takes forever. other sites are ok.

8.) does the g1 have different email folders you can create with other accounts like the sidekick lx?

its got 2 email features. 1 gmail as its own widget/program whatever. 2nd email you can imap/pop mail. no folder options for pop mail. gmail looks like it'll sync with whatever's on your server. appears more complicated than the sidekick to move messages around.

    9.)
can you save pictures from email or picture messaging like the sidekick?
email yes from gmail. picture text message, NO (or not yet that i can see....another LAME)

    10.)
is there a flash for the camera?
No, but the camera quality i think i waaaaay better than the sidekick. hold your hand still and your good.

11.) can you create your own backgrounds for the phone and remove things[like the clock] from the front "desktop"?
backgrounds yes. Took me forever to figure out that desktop, but if you touch & hold any item for 2-3 seconds, it'll vibrate & animate & move whereever your finger goes and you can drag that clock to the trashcan. i like the clock personally.

    12.)
i just read somehwere that the phone does not do video.. think this will be a fix?i dont see how a new phone cant do video when so many standard phones can.[/quote]
it'll do youtube. i havn't gotten far enought for someone to send me a video yet. i've gotten picture text messages with sound.

If i were you, i'd hold off til a few bugs get worked out. There's also not a sync program. I used intellisync w/ my sidekick & outlook. nothing out yet that's a 1 touch simple program. I really miss having that feature. hope all that helps

    A Just-in-case-Question:

If for some reason I'm not happy with g1, is there a grace period during which I can return it w/o paying early contract termination fee?
    (I preodered 9/25, got it 10/20)

    Thanks
