So I'm sitting here trying to get my GMail contacts in order in preparation for the G1 arrival, and I want to assign a picture to each of my contacts. Obviously this feature is nothing new to phones, but does anyone know how it's going to be implemented in Android?
Specifically, I'm concerned about resolution. I'd like all my contacts' pictures to be the same size, so what should I crop them to? The contact picture in GMail looks to be about 100x100, but surely this can't be what they're using in Android?! That's so tiny.
Any information would be appreciated.
Ive asked this 10000 times and have got no answer
Someone with the phone would have to answer that question, beyond that its all speculation.

Anyone out there with the phone (employees?) care to comment on how the phone deals with contacts' pictures from GMail? Specifically looking for resolution information-- how best to crop pictures for use on the phone?
From all I can tell in the emulator, after loading up a pic and cropping it in the phone, the pictures need to be square, and no, they don't show up any bigger than 100x100. The only thing I can't do here is RECEIVE a call, so if they come up bigger then, I don't know about it. In the contact list, they're tiny, and when you place a call, it seems to be 96x96 with a 4 pix border (for a total of 104x104).

Set as contact picture
1In full-screen view, press MENU and select More > Set as.
2From the menu that opens, select Contact icon. Your contact list opens.
3Select the contact you want to associate with the picture.
4Touch & hold an edge of the cropper to reveal the sizing arrows, then
drag the edge in or out to size. Touch & drag the center of the cropper
to move it within the picture.
5When you’re happy with the cropped area, select Save or press the
BACKbutton.
6 The picture will now appear in the Contact details screen, as well as on any incoming call notifications

I believe it uses the same pictures you can assign now through your gmail contacts. They are indeed square.
its so much easier just to wait, im gonna wait till i have the phone, then i can go on myspace, download and use any pictures i want and crop them up on the phone. i wish that joyeye program or whatever its called was up on the marketplace, that looked like a pretty sweet photo editing program
