Hi My name is Mike.
I have been trying to root my phone for a couple days now.
I run windows vista home and I'm able to mount my sd card and transfer files back and forth from cpu to sd. The problem is in order to root my phone I need to format my sd card to FAT32. Every time I click the removable drive K and click format the SD card, it then unmounts and says "no disk in drive K" "please insert a disk" on the computer.
This is the only hurdle i'm trying to get over to root.
When i click on properties of the removable K drive it says its FAT (which i assume is FAT16 no FAT32).
If anyone has any answers, thanks in advance.
My suggestion is get a card reader. You will definitely need one in case something goes wrong and you can't boot your phone. Please don't root without one.
Try to take some photos or something and save it to the card, if it won't save then you may have a bad sd

I faced the same problem.
Was unable to get the phone's sdcard formatted over usb using Vista. I would click mount the phone, so that the files on the card would be visible on the PC. But the moment I right clicked to format, the card would get unmounted and Vista would say 'no drive'. Without formatting as fat32, the phone's bootloader would say no image found. Even the phone's internal formatter (in Android 1.6 onwards) would only format the sdcard as fat not fat32 (right click and check properties in vista).
Finally did exactly the same procedure on windows xp sp2 and it formatted without unmounting!
Moral of the story - use windows xp sp2 to format phone's sdcard over usb cable.
Also, some people seem to suggest that the image file should be named in all caps : DREAIMG.NBH, however, my phone got downgraded with the downloaded DREAIMG.nbh .
