Default "Reverse Tethering" Possible on G1?

I dont want to run a laptop off of my G1 connection I need use my computers internet connection for my phone!

So for some reason I get very poor signal in my work office unless I'm pressed up against a window which isn't very convenient from 9-5. There are no wireless signals in the area to jump on so I'm wondering if there is a way to use my computers internet connection for my G1.

All Im looking to do is be able to send/receive texts and calls, dont need high speeds for web browsing or anything like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

I dont know what kinda computer you have at work or even if you have admin abilities but the best way i can think of us Ad hoc your phone to your pc ... and turn on internet sharing. since you say you dont get a wireless signal you would have to aquire a usb wireless adapter.

My best guess anyone else with ideas better than mine?

Sign up for Google Voice. I had the same problem you do. Get zero signal in my office and I'd miss texts/calls. I got GoogleVoice yesterday and now that I've distributed my new number I can view my calls/texts online and have my mobile calls routed to my office phone during the work hours (which I set).

It may not be the easiest solution, on account of you have to wait for an invite, but I'm just suggesting this because I was in the exact same boat and couldn't find any other solution.

Oh and it sucks there's no Google Voice gadget for vista but if I periodically check the page then I can stay on top of my texts (my calls get routed to my office phone so I'm good there).

If you find a way to reverse-tether that would be something I'd like to know as well.

just a note on the ad hoc idea,

i believe the G1 cannot connect to ad-hoc access points. I tried tethering a G1 to another G1 and it didn't

You can't transfer calls or SMS through an internet connection from your phone, unless you use a different service/phone number. They operate on T-Mobile's network, and running it through the PC will not let you receive calls/sms to your T-Mobile number.

I agree with you... I've never tried it myself, but in theory I believe you can do what you've said (Ad Hoc mode on phone and PC, PC needs a wireless network adaptor, turn Internet Connection Sharing on in Windows, connect phone to PC).

This is what I'd would do. Anything else I could think of would require writing a custom application or something like that.

My android os is CyanogenMod 4.2.14.1,
    1.Enable "Settings\Wireless controls\Internet tethering"
2.Install HTC Remote NDIS based Device driver(http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1265356413)
    3.Set the HTC adapter as: IP:192.168.2.1, Mask:255.255.255.0
4.Set the PC ethercard as shared connection
    5.Run these codes in terminal:
    su
    ifconfig usb0 192.168.2.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
    busybox route delete default
    iptables -F
    iptables -F -t nat
busybox route add default gw 192.168.2.1
    setprop net.dns1 8.8.8.8
    setprop "net.gprs.http-proxy" ""

6.Now your g1 could open browser to view any web pages on the internet, and update apps in the Market.

How do you know that this is working? It does not for me. How to troubleshoot it?
