Default Short ring time - missing calls...

My G1 rests nicely in my front left pocket all the time. Or when in uniform, in my left breast pocket. If it rings I have to free up my hands, reach in and get it. It can take all but 6-7 seconds. Most of the time I end up missing the call. Is there a way to increase the time? Anyone else experience this?

Also, sometimes when it rings it will take 2-3 seconds to turn the screen on to show me on the caller ID. Is this a flaw? That leaves me 2-3 seconds to decide if I want to answer it or not. Just seems too fast. I'd like a 11-12 second ring time, if possible.

    Any suggestions?

I have noticed that when someone calls me the person on the other line will get about 2 rings before the G1 even lets me know that i am getting a call, so i assume this also cuts into that time.

you need to dial some gsm codes

    call: *61*1[vm access number]*11*n#

Replace [vm access number] with your voice mail access number
Replace n with the number of seconds that should elapse before the call is sent to voice mail.

    see http://geckobeach.com/cellular/secrets/gsmcodes.php for more options

I tried the code and received the following error message:
    Call forwarding
Connection problem or invalid MMI code
    [OK]
I'll check the link in your post for clues.
    Thanks
UPDATE: Found the problem. The correct code is *61*[vm access number]*11*n#
You shouldn't use the number 1 here- *61*1. But do include your country or long distance code with the vm number like this- *61*14045551212*11*n#. n=5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. n must be in 5 second increments not exceeding 30 seconds. I just tried it and it worked!

Call forwarding to Voicemail is always on by default.

rjsccott2005, what is the default number of seconds before it forwards to voicemail?

I have noticed this alot, its annoying. I will try suggestions above.

I had my buddy standing next to me call my phone. It rang 3-4 times on his end before my G1 even started ringing or vibrating or screen turning on...

    EDIT: worked well, thanks

Doesn't mean anything -- do the same test with another phone. My Nokia used to ring after the 4th ring on my deskphone. I work in a telco and do SLA testing from time to time, so this sort of thing may not be wholly related to the devices
