Hey everyone,
Just got the Sprint HTC Hero, and after 3 days I can honestly say it is one of the best phones I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few. I personally think it is better than the Pre, and when we get 1.6 it will be just as good if not better than the iPhone 3GS. The marketplace has some decent apps, and android devices are expected to grow to about 12-15% of the cell phone market. I love the sense UI, and think HTC did a great job on the on screen keyboard, especially with spell check and auto correct. I don't understand why companies make on screen keyboards and don't have a spell checker, or auto correct. My only problem with the phone so far, is the smallest problem, but does any one elses weather on the home screen take about 30-40 minutes to show up under the time, when the phone is restarted or switching between scenes?
I'm not too familiar with Sense UI so I can't know for sure. For lack of any other ideas, I'm going to guess that the lag for the weather widget is due to how often the phone checks for a weather update. Perhaps it checks every hour, so if you turned your phone on at say 2:30, you wouldn't get the weather until 3:00. It just seems weird to me that the phone wouldn't check on boot. Check the weather app's settings.

There is a big problem on the developer end of Android because it's becoming like J2ME.
Meaning all these devices coming out have all different specs and needs and we very well may soon be seeing applications only being developed for certain brand devices.
Android's OS was meant to be the backbone of phones, the Hero is the example.
1.5 Android backbone
HTC sense UI for the win.
It's built on 1.5 not really meant to be for 1.6
It's a big problem, I don't know where things will go, but i think sticking with "With Google" devices will be ace for a year more or so until 2.0 comes out or things get settled.
I've noticed a lot of apps don't work with Sprint's Hero. Loopt is one of them, they just released a brand new version and still no go.
The weather mine does the same thing, it has to do with how often it checks for weather. I noticed when I left one city and entered another, the city took forever to change.
So will sense UI not be compatible with 1.6 or will it be compatible because sprint users wont be getting 1.6 til early next year, hopefully they are making sense ui for 1.6.
The Hero will get 1.6, HTC has already confirmed it.
ok so i'm going to be a little thorough in some things i've noticed. i am a novice to actually using android os, so some things may be my inexperience.
1-my clock widget is stuck in the wrong time zone even though it is set to use network. my number is a Kansas City #, i'm in the Denver, CO area, my clock is stuck on KC even though I am selecting Denver everytime I set the widget. What's even weirder is when I use the rolodex widget the clock is actually CST (Kansas City's time zone), but when I use the other setting it still says Kansas City but is displaying MST (which is Denver's time zoon). Actually not having problems with the weather widget unless i'm using the rolodex clock setting with the weather embedded, it shows KC weather.
2-Social Networks settings; I've had one hell of a headache all day today with social networks not keeping my log in information for facebook, no problems with flickr or twitter, just facebook. Literally as soon as I navigate away from the settings I was logged out. With half of my contacts synched with facebook, it's very very very frustrating loosing the contact images & several of the other cool features, like mobile photo uploads. The problem appears to have been resolved a little bit, contacts are synched up again but it may not last long.
3-3.5mm headphone, I turned the phone off & on with a 3.5mm in, it did not recognize the 3.5mm, even after I took it out and put it back in, still didn't recognize them, didn't use them. I resolved this by taking the headphones out and powercycling the phone again, once system was up and running i put the headphones in & the phone recognized and used them no problem.
The only one of these i really have issue with is the irritable issue with the social network settings, which was just super awesome for the first 48 hours that it worked just fine.
Finally, a question, is there a way to change the default browser to opera mini? it was the best mobile browser i've ever had but currently whenever i click links via messages, etc, the system browser is always the default and i'd rather utilze the opera browser, which is just AWESOME at taking less bandwidth for web browsing; very handy for when you're listening to internet radio at high kbs & tweeting, & uploading a photo, downloading apps (I LOVE the multitasking)

just so you know, you're not alone with the fb problem... mine also keeps logging out and losing the photo integration. twitter/flickr never log out, though. and yeah, it's been fine for the last 24 hours or so, but i'm skeptical if it will stay.
