This is getting very frustrating. I have been able to determine, that its not any individual app that is causing the crashes. I have some up and running that were causing crashes before. Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you for your input.
Ok, first off.. they're not faulty units. I swapped mine last Friday, crashed two days in on the new unit with the same apps installed.
Of the apps that you have listed, I had the following installed...
"Gtaks"
"Handcent"
"Taskpanel X"
"Astrid"
Of that list, I have only installed Astrid on this last try and have been good for the last two days. I suspected (on a hunch) that it was either taskpanel or handcent as I installed them at the same time and after that is when my issue started. I strongly suspect that the issue is caused either from one of those programs individually or both of those programs conflicting with each other. Try leaving those programs off next time you reset and see what results you get.
If we can track it to which program(s) it is individually, we can probably let the developer(s) know.
Thanks again for sharing what you've got.
Please let me know if what you have found is different than what I have said in regards to this issue. I'd love to hear what you find.

You're right, It's not the hardware. On my second phone, same problem. The only app the three of us have in common is Handcent. So I'll try Chompsms or maybe even stock messaging and see what happens. The only thing is, there are a lot of people using handcent, so you would think this problem would be more prevalent.

I feel fortunate, none of the apps I've used have the problems, including handscent; I would like to uninstall most of the Sprint apps tho, the damn things like to run without you being aware. I'd suggest downloading no more than 3 at a time and running them to see if they look troublesome or useless
Well, Handcent isn't the problem, same issue without installing it. Crap!!!!
Well, I haven't had this issue anymore. However, I have now been hit with the out of memory issue and the no text/voicemail issue. And of course Sprint knows nothing. Next time I'll call HTC directly. Either way, Sprint will be swapping my phone for a second time.
This is a real bummer because I really want to like this phone, but if these issues keep up I will be switching to a different phone.
Anyway, back on topic... kronium, do you have taskpanel installed this go? Did you do a hard reset or just uninstall Handcent? I installed Handcent SMS without issue this last time and left taskpanel off.

I've also experienced this issue and had to reset the phone. Both Sprint TS over the phone and the store tech who reset my phone both insisted that Shazam and TasKiller, which were both on my phone when this occurred, are documented with Sprint as being troublesome apps for Sprint's Hero. They were very specific about these two titles. They never asked about or mentioned any of the other apps noted in this thread, many of which I've installed and used both before and after my incident.
I posted my experience and Sprint's claims (as well as some over-the-top arrogant behavior on Sprint's part) in the Phandroid forums, and the users over there dispute the compatibility claims of the apps in question.
Phandroid Forums link: Unusual issue, surprising response from Sprint TS
I don't think I had either of those installed when this occurred for me... I could be mistaken though. I have become much more selective with the programs I use now.
Same here, though I did cave and put Shazam back on. I find it one of the most useful apps I've found in the market. I also switched to Advanced App Manager Free, which I now prefer over TasKiller anyway. No problems since the original incident. I hope the OP is able to sort this out, as he's obviously had a much harder time with it than I.
@ OP: You sound pretty sharp so you're likely already aware of this, you can use ASTRO File Manger to back up your apps to the SD card, which simplifies and speeds up reinstalling in the event of another hard reset. Good luck.
I've hard reset each time, and I know for a fact its not advanced task killer. The only thing I havn't tried yet is to leave Shazam off. I'll be shocked if the Sprint reps were right on this one. Whatever it is, I fear its like a time bomb, that doesn't do its damage as soon as installed.
