T-Mobile refuses to sell me a G1!

My area does not have 3G, (oklahoma city, OK) and I do not have an account with t-mobile. Because of this, the sales reps on the phone refuse to sell me a G1 without a contract.

This is pissing me off to no end, and now it looks like I'll have to risk ebay and hope an unlocking hack shows up. Why does T-Mobile refuse to accept my business, even if it's just for 3 months?

that's their policy. there's nothing you can do about it, but wait for people to start selling unlocked phones.

didnt they mention that u can buy the phone right off unlock for 399???

I'd imagine the reason they will not sell you the phone right now is because you have to be a current t-mobile customer in order to buy the phone before October 22. I'd suggest trying to call them back on that date to see what happens. I have had a few friends who are not T-Mobile customers try to get in on the pre-order any way possible, but with no avail. They were told they would be able to pick up a phone in a T-Mobile store on the 22 or call back to place their order then.

Nowhere in there does it say anything about refusing to sell the phones to customers in non-3g areas.

Get an account with T-Mobile and it will solve your problems.

I knew preorder was not available, but the people I have talked to have said I will be unable to purchase the phone, contract free, with or without service, after october 22nd, and will instead have to wait until 3g is deployed in my area. I'm really hopeful they are entirely wrong.

Hmm, no thanks. T-mobile pissed me off plenty when I had a contract with them for 2 years, rather not have to deal with that anymore. Not to mention, i'm going to work for at&t soon, and would rather not be paying for a voice plan from t-mobile when i can get one for free from my employer.

Well, you're not a t-mobile customer, to become one, you have to sign into a contract. If you want the g1, you either need to get a contract or pay out the nose if someone sells it unlocked, and t-mobile wont do that right away, its an exclusive phone, dont be mad at them because you want the world
