Everyone knows (and frequently whines) about the horrible lack of battery-life on their G1. We all want more G1 love, and have to charge frequently to acquire it.
Well, I've worked hard and have gotten my G1 to last 15 hours w minimal use, which is DAMN GOOD, if you ask me. Moderate use yeilded more like 10 hours, which I can deal w.
Here's how I did it!
- Use only the Edge (2G) network for normal web browsing/AIM, etc.
- Cut off the wifi, GPS Location, and Bluetooth. The Power Manager from the Market can help make this task a snap!
- Drain your battery w normal usage until it's icon at the top is red w a big X thru it. Then plug it in. Do this every time and don't get suckered into plugging it in before you get the X.
Do this regularly and you will get a much longer charge.
Hope my success helps others. Sorry if these ideas are reposts, but I thought it might be helpful for other shameless NEW POSTS whores like myself.
Cheers, kittens. Much G1 love.

hmm.. i can get 2 full days (48+ hrs) with minimal use.
With 3g on, i can get 1 full day.
Settings, to get 2+ days:
Brightness - lowest
3g - Off
Wifi - off
Bluetooth - Off
Gps - off
Screen timeout - shortest
I keep my gmail/calendar sync on, but if that was off, would probably help more.
Sounds like a Winner to me,
I'm thinking everybody have their own way of conserving battery life...
As they get to know their phones a lot better, You feel me

For the beginning of the Android OS I think we have to all stick to these advices to improve the battery life - however it reminds me of buy 500hp car to drive it 30mph to work 4 miles one way 5 days a week. You pay for technology and then you do not use it (turn it off in G1 case to save the battery life) - terrible and I hope they fix this.

why not get a 2nd battery and charger. You can get one for $10 on ebay.
Yes, the generic battery probably won't be great, but as a spare to last the day, I think its a good deal.

And its not like the spare battery is huge. Its tiny and I can't see anybody being burdened by having it in a pocket or in a purse.

I totally agree, you really shouldn't have to pick and choose what functions to turn off, just to make it through the day.
Even though I don't mind carrying an extra battery, but that should be my choice to do so.

I also keep my auto sync off, and my screen to a low level. And I'm not suggesting people stay hard and fast to these rules. These are just suggestions I'm giving based on my personal experiences and efforts while striving to be able to get thru the day and still call someone if my car broke down on the side of the road, or something.

The battery management program found in the market has been god sent. Since I started using it, I rarely ever run out of juice throughout the day.
I'm not sure why this is so promoted, but GPS DOES NOT have to be off. It only drains when used. ShopSavvy uses it, WeatherBug uses it, the Movies app, and maps. I don't want to have to toggle it when using those programs so I leave it on. It turns off when you exit the program or your screen cuts off (timed). It's not a hog unless it's running at the moment.
