Above all, these "rules" are nothing more than common sense at play.
A rookie (someone who's had the phone for less than 48 hours) would find these tips useful.
You want to get the most out of your battery? Keep your phone off. That's what I do and dammit, I got the phone to last one week! You guys are amateurs.
thanks for the tips

True on CRT monitors, not so with LCD. There's a white backlight behind the LCD, and I think it takes power to tell that pixel to be black and block that light. I learned this after talking with my friend about Blackle and we decided it doesn't save any energy for modern displays (LCDs)![]()
All this talk of draining and charging the G1.
I thought that with lition-ion batteries you do not need to cycle the battery as it has not effect?
I'm going to jump on the 'don't let power manager monitor your battery' bandwagon. Really, it's a nice app to check my battery's % charge and to quickly enable/disable things like bluetooth and wifi, but when I let it change the settings depending on battery % it drains significantly faster.
I tend to be leaving the house at about 8am, getting home usually around 5/6pm and it's not been less than 50% remaining since I stopped letting the Power Manager app change settings automatically. That's with 3G turned on, regular use.
I decided not to use power manager and installed Useful Switchers. I use it to pick what I want on/off when I want it on.
I have the following settings
Wifi - off
GPS - on
Wireless location - off
Bluetooth - off
Brightness - 16%
Screen Time out - 1minute
Air Plan Mode - off
Auto Sync on
In the snyc settings I only have on
Auto Sync - on
Gmail - on
Calender - off
Contacts - off
I sync my Calender and Contacts only when I make changes manually
I gmail to grab all my email from my two domains
As well I use K-9 to author my email, but I do not have it set to retrieve my email.
This Saturday I turned my phone on at 7:30am and I turned it off at 1:30am and I had over 50% battery left. I always turn my phone off at night just so it can be fresh in the morning and I hate getting messages while I try to sleep.
I even have vibrate and ring and SMS popup installed. I talk all day with the wife on Gtalk, Text message and surf. Occasionally I use Wifi at home.
