I'm not sure why this is so promoted, but GPS DOES NOT have to be off. It only drains when used. ShopSavvy uses it, WeatherBug uses it, the Movies app, and maps. I don't want to have to toggle it when using those programs so I leave it on. It turns off when you exit the program or your screen cuts off (timed). It's not a hog unless it's running at the moment.

Well, I'm not sure about other phones but in the Cliq it says "deselect to conserve battery" which would explain why many people would do so.

Screen timeout - shortest

There's a bit of a problem with that. Whenever you plug it into the computer (As I always do), you have to unlock it every time you want to do something with it while it's plugged in (An example of this would adding shortcuts to apps you've just downloaded)

This is why I prefer to keep the screen timeout as short as possible only when I'm on the battery. When I have it plugged in, the display dims BUT I don't let it go dark & lock the phone because there's no need to since you're running off electricity & not the battery itself

But alas, I guess it's just a matter of preference I suppose.....
