I've searched Google (ironically) for hours... searched here and other android sites for hours....can't find the answer.
Unlocked a G1 via unlock-tmobileg1.com...took about 16 hours to get it but to their credit two other sites had to refund me...couldn't do it.
Now I have some jenstewart21 gmail user listed...I have no idea who that is or how it got there but obviously I don't know the password so I can't login and use the market...etc.
There HAS to be a way to change that info without resetting the phone. That info has to be kept in a file or db somewhere.
What happens if you want to dump a gmail address totally and start using another... how the heck to you reset this without resetting the phone and losing everything?
Enlighten me...
BG
How did you get that address on your phone in the first place?

I have no idea...but I did find that when I used the weather channel widget that it was set for a nearby city....then I started thinking... did he unseal it when I got there or did I... I'm betting this thing was used by someone else then returned...has to be. Bought it from a local cell store...independent.
yep someone returned that, email him and ask him nicely - who knows.
I just did a total reset and started from scratch. Everything works fine now. I just wish I could get it to talk to AT&T's 3G but with different freqs that will probably not happen any time soon if at all.
Now... if someone would just produce an email client worth a darn...
So did you do a "restore to factory settings" reset? I was wondering because I bought an unlocked G1 off of eBay and am having the same problem. The previous users' gmail login is in the phone, and I can't seem to find a way around it.
I heard about using anycut to create a shortcut to the setup wizard, but I can't get into the market to download it because his googleAccount login is in there (which I obviously don't have the password for)...
If you did do the factory reset, did it undo the unlock? IOW did you have to re-enter the unlock code to use it with AT&T again?
Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Either if you can reset the phone without losing the unlock or a way to get to the setup wizard, or any way really to reset the default gmail account info....
Much thanks.
Solved....
The easiest way to change accounts is to go to Settings>Applications>Gmail and clear all data. I also did it for gTalk and all other Google related apps. This created a notification that I needed to redo the setup wizard with a link in the notification to start it. This fixed everything and didn't have to worry about a hard-reset.
you only need to clear data of Google apps. Then G1 will ask for new google account.
I've done this before.
when you got your phone and you did not have a gmail acount and just created one and now wanting to change it, you can without any installs or factory resets....
1)go to your home screen
2)settings
3)applications
4)manage applications
5) gmail and gmail storage
6) clear data on both
7) turn off phone all the way and restart
now goto market and it will ask you to put in your gmail info...just put in the new gmail account you created....now your contacts will be gone, but if you go to your gmail account on a pc and click on contacts you should see export. Click on this and it will ask you to select a program to save it to. Then sign out and then sign in to your new account. Click on contacts on new gmail account and then contacts and then import. Contacts are switched. Go to your phone and dialer and contacts should be there. If not give it about 5-10 seconds.
OPTIONAL:
Instead of Deleting the Data in Gmail and Gmail storage you can simply delete data in "Google Apps". So basically follow all your steps but instead of deleting data in Gmail and Gmail storage Clear the data in "Google Apps"
i have the problem too.
except that i factory reset it, and i am screwed as i cannot get in.
I am in asia and i cannot use it.
help would be great
