Default Visual Notification When Phone Is "Sleeping"

Is there anything you can do to get a notification when you have a msg if the screen is off? I have to constantly check my phone to see if i have messages. Which isn't a problem now, as I like playing with it and have it sitting right in front of me. But once the new-ness wears off and I just keep it in my pocket or whatever, is there any way to have some kind of notification that I have a msg waiting for me?

From many years of experience with HTC phones you can typically see when a you have a message by the status lights.

Okay maybe that's a bad example. But say it's sleeping and across the room, I would like to be able to look at it and see if I have a message.

For instance, my Sidekick 2008, the trackball would flash green when there were no messages, but if I had a message of any kind (text, IM, email, etc...) then the trackball would flash blue. and I could just look at it and see if I had a message.

As far as the green light goes, I thought the lights had to do with charging, orange means it's charging, green means it's full. Maybe I was wrong?

I know what he's talking about. I have the phone sitting right next to me on the desk. It's in sleep mode. I walked away, came back, and of course the phone was still asleep. No little flashing light either. However when I looked at the phone, I saw there was a new email. Same thing happened to me later, but I saw I actually missed a call. Finally, I had a calendar event pop up reminder. No green light at all.

Now, the green light DOES come up sometimes, but really.. that little light is too tiny and barely visible to catch my eye.

Like the original poster, I want a really dim notification to pop up on the screen, and stay on screen until I touch it. It could be super dim, just like a little screen saver alert. It just needs to catch my eye more.

Exactly! I need something to let me know I missed a msg.

Aude Im glad you said this - I'm missing my blue notification trackball too. Also, typing is a tad awkward cuz of the chin, eh? I mean not horrible but we'll have to get used to it. Other than that - I'm happy as a clam.

The green light has flashed consistently for Text Messages on my G1. I am not sure about your other notifications though.
