hi guys i just got my g1 yesterday. i traded my iphone for a g1. and that same day i was using the wifi at my house with the iphone and it worked perfectly like always. after i traded i was playing with it a bit, everything works fine, edge, 3g all that stuff. but when i connect to my router "linksys" it shows its connected with like full bars almost and when i go to browser and type in any website it wont load at all. i doubt its my router cuz i was using it with my iphone earlier and im using it with my laptop as well
any suggestions
thanks
Try disabling it then enabaling it and it may work after i had the same problem but it fixed itself.

You will need to do a forum search. I think I read in an older post(I think it was on this site) that some linksys routers have a probably connecting with the G1.
Start by checking that you are getting a vaild ip address. Should be something like 192.168.1.XXX
Also it happened on my dash. Not all encryption methods of my router worked with my phone. Trying by turning of encryption and see if that works. If it does work trying useing older versions first then the newer versions.
Last but not least.... TRY some other router.
cant put this damn phone down...
ill try this when i get home
but just so you guys know
it has no encryption
anyone can connect to it
so that shouldnt be the problem
and i did try turning off wifi and turning it back on
i doubt its the router but idk cuz the iphone worked on it my laptops work on it my psp works on it and stuff idk
but thanks
I'm having a similar problem. I found this thread but I have more info to contribute...
I have a Apple Airport Express that I used at home with no problem. I had it configured as a WPA2 wireless bridge with DHCP disabled (DHCP and DNS are being handled by my Linux server at home, while I have another router as my gateway) and the G1 can connect to this network just fine.
However, when I reset the AE to its default configuration as a router, the G1 sees the network, shows a full signal, but when I connect to it the little notification icon shows no Wifi bars (a white dot with three gray arcs). I tried this in the factory configuration with encryption disabled and with WPA2 enabled like it was at home.
If I manually enter IP settings on the phone it works, so it looks like a DHCP problem to me. If you're experiencing the same symptoms I describe above you're probably seeing the same thing with your router model.
In summary, the two workarounds for my problem that I've found so far:
- Use a static IP address (Settings -> Wireless controls -> Wi-Fi settings -> (hit menu key) -> Advanced)
- Disable DHCP on the router and set up another DHCP server on your network
Other threads have entioned MAC filtering, etc.
FWIW... I couldn't connect to my linksys until I went into it and changed the number of allowable dhcp users. I had it set at 3 (two laptops and wifi printer). Changed it to 5 and wallah! Wifi on my G1!! Woo-hoo!!
Hope that helps someone.
Joe
so i tried this and it kinda worked for a night.
last night i went to configure my router settings, i turned dchp off, then turned it back on. then i enabled wifi on my g1 and it was working smoothly. this morning i tried connecting, it shows that its connecting, but it wont load any of the pages on browser at all, i cant even go to the market, maps, you toube or anyt of that
Hi!
I had the same Problem with the G1. It seemed to be connected, had an ip from the dhcp server (was listet in the DHCP Table of my PIX) but did not get an data connection. After some wifi sniffing i found the g1 to transfer strangly AES encoded frames.
It seems that the G1/Android cant handle AES encryption on WPA wifi with bigger packets. After i set the encryption of my Router to TKIP (my old Siemens is not WPA2 capable but WPA-AES capable) everything worked fine.
Maybe someone should submit a bugreport for this
best regards
Kevin
