Won't sign in for first time

My phone won't sign in to the gmail acct I have had for a year now. I just got it, plugged it in, turned it on and I keep getting the same message about the phone not being able to

"There is a problem connecting with the Google Servers."

"This could be a temporary problem or your sim may not be set up for data. Please call customer care if problem continues."

I did call them and they couldn't help me w/o a landline. I lost my old phone 2 weeks ago. And yes this sim is activated. I activated it with my girls phone but she isn't home.

I am sure people have already posted about this but the "search" function on this forum has never worked for me.

have you purchased the $25+ G1 data plan or the 19.99 data plan? Correct me if im wrong, but I believe you need at least one or the other data plan in order for the G1 to connect to the servers during your first activation.

I'm no help in fixing your connection problem other than suggesting calling from a different phone/using wifi.

But... The search does work, as long as you don't use the "Search Android Community" at the very top of the page, and instead use the other search button on the blue bar below where your name is at the top.

Which SIM card are you using? Mine came with a new SIM card in the box and would display what you mentioned. I then used my previous card and had no problems getting everything to work.

if you are close to a tmobile store take there and let them help you out if you dont have a landline to call from
