Thread: An app that lets you save apps to MicroSDcard and launch them from there

    Default An app that lets you save apps to MicroSDcard and launch them from there

    I've been downloading apps, and now I'm getting messages that I'm running out of space, so I've had to remove apps in order to install new ones.I've always been able to do this with Palm OS, Windows Mobile devices, I know there are amazing developers for Android. I hope someone can make an app that allows us to do that

    it will (FRACKING SHOULD CONSIDERING THE ILL ADVISED MOVE TO INCLUDE SUCH LITTLE INTERNAL PROGRAM MEMORY) happen in time.

    That is one major gripe I have with the G1...I mean even 4GB would've been ill.

    Same here. This is something that will become a huge problem really quick if we don't get a solution to this.

    I've said this before and i'll say it again - I don't like to feel limited. 71 MB is like, 10 applications. Plus take into consideration cache from the browser, maps, STREETVIEW, etc.

    Just let us download them to the card and we'll be on our way.

    Even the HTC "Wing" allowed you to download to your memory card.

    This needs to be a firmware update and not an app!!!! Seriously!!

    Guys, I'm sure Google is trying to figure out how to best handle this situation. It's not that simple. By allowing the apps to be installed on something that's removable, there could be a multitude of problems:
    1. The system handles (links to the actual apps) are dead if card is removed;
    2. An app that's current running will crash is the card is removed;
    3. If the installation folder is moved by the user, the dead app could corrupt the system.

    Most apps are not plain executables, they are integrated into the OS. I'm guessing what they will probably do is to allow non-system apps to be installed on an SD card, and check every time prior to execution whether the location in the registry can be found and try to contain system crashes when the app's code disappears at run time.

    As much as I loved to have G1 the first week, this thing of not allowing apps to save on to SD is ridiculous. Can't believe Google would mess it up this much. If they wanted to have the apps only in the internal memory, they should have enuf space on the device...Now you can't download as many apps you would want! I bought a 8 GB card and what to do with that![except to save photos and music...which I can do on my camera and ipod!]
