Default App for opening MS office documents?

Is there anything out there for money or anything in the works or anyone working on this?

MS Office can only be previewed (not edited) only from Gmail.

It's a drawback for me because I use excel a lot.

Yeah I want this too, but besides from something I think a while back about open office, haven't heard really much about something that can edit MS Office docs.

I imagine the earliest that will happen is when paid apps come next year. It is unlikely Open Office will be ported to Android since it was never ported to mobile devices before. Also I don't expect there to be a free app for editing word/excel documents since it'll take some work to write an app that does that.

But I expect a paid app to come eventually.

I'm with you on this one. I noticed when I'm in my GMail on my laptop and open Google Documents, I CAN edit and save them. But when I open that same spreadsheet in my GMail on my G1, it only allows me to view it, not edit it. I have a spreadsheet that I use daily to keep track of work I do and then refer to it for billing on a monthly basis. It would be nice to be able to add entries to that spreadsheet via my G1 (since I always have it with me).

Are there any spreadsheet programs out there yet that work with Excel spreadsheets on the G1?
