Alright, by reason of deduction I have determined that this application does not exist for the G1 yet! I wish to request this here!
I had an old cell phone from sprint that used to replace a Garmin, why not the G1? Battery? Get a car charger. You should have one anyways. Hell, it should come in the box. The battery life on this thing is atrocious at best and this is no secret so prepare yourself accordingly.
All in favor say aye!
It is coming. In fact, AndNav had one ready for launch but had to change thte turn by turn due to Google's ToS. Just be patient and a full navi system will hit the market. Unfortunately, it will probably be a paid app.
why cant andnav just put it on their site. no one can do anything about it..

I'd pay for it. This is one of the major things T-Mobile is lacking that I was excited about for the G1.
If you want a fully functioning GPS with turn-by turn navigation. Why don't you just get a GPS?
You bought a phone. Not a garmin, tom-tom, magellan.
Even still, it's only a matter of time before this become avaliable in an application.
There are lots of advantages that a phone can offer, assuming you have data coverage:
- better support for custom maps and routes that aren't on a "road" than 99% of car GPS's have (the only exception I've heard of is the Lowrance XOG)
- you don't have to buy ~$100 maps for each area if you can just use Google Maps with a data connection. (Also, do you have to pay to get updates for maps?)
- a standalone GPS costs about as much as a smartphone does, so if your phone can do both that's a 50% savings over buying both (less if the navi app costs money)
- real-time traffic and weather without subscribing to satellite services
- Google has a POI database that's hard to beat
- nothing that you'll be tempted to leave in the car; GPS navigation devices tend to get stolen
- one less thing to pack while traveling
That's what I'm waiting for... I'd have to think about it when it comes out but if it were a good app that has most of the features I wanted I'd probably pay up to $60 for it.Even still, it's only a matter of time before this become avaliable in an application.
here, here
i tried AndNav and it has much work to be done to be a true nav app
