Default memory scrubber and daily reboot

I would pay for this app. 4.99-14.99 is a good price range. I would like a app in which it auto runs twice a day at set times. It would scrub all non essential memory and then reboot the phone to make sure the g1 is running to the fullest. Obviously it would be more detailed but its just a basic.

I see requests for programs that do different types of memory management all the time. What problem are you having with your phone to make you think you need to reboot it daily and/or manage the memory for it better than it already is?

I think this problem boils down to what many people have complained/asked about: The inability to actually see which processes are running and end them. After running multiple programs throughout the day, my g1 tends to get sluggish.

There is a misconception here that I will try to clear up. The notion that a program is running in the background, or at the same time, like windows allows, simply does not exist in Android. Yes, there are apps that can load themselves as services, but for all practical purposes, only one program is running at any time in Android, and that's the program in the foreground. Yes, Android keeps track of the last six apps that you ran so it can start them back up again, but all it does is store a very small stub in its memory. This memory was already set aside for this purpose, so even if you could clear it out, it wouldn't free up anything for you to use.
Like I said, there are programs that can run as services, and as such, they can run in the background and therefore they are running all the time. Android is very careful to not allow such processes take up very much of the cpu total cycle. If you are truly having a problem where your phone is getting sluggish (although I highly suspect this is your imagination and misconception after using windows for so many years where this truly is a reality), then I would systematically try to figure out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

Well said!! I really do ( since I also was a long time Windows Mobile user) think it's all because of being use to Windows and how bad , especially on mobile devics, deals with background programs. I read this and tried to see if I kept opening apps and such if i noticed any "slowing down" or "sluggish" operation and haven't noticed any at all.

is it my imagination that the scrolling (esp. the alert slider) gets choppy? i try to avoid hallucinogenics...and windows. (also, a reboot seems to help)

If you want to see what's running you can install Services Viewer from the Tools section of the Market. It's not a task manager, you can't stop anything. Mr Gibbage has it exactly right, and that's why Android doesn't have or need a task manager.

Please explain this to me, as I'm not a programmer. If only one program can run at once, how is it possible to listen to music and surf the net at the same time?

... and receive a phone call, and a text message, and have locale realize that you just arived at work, and any number of other things. Yes, there are multiple "programs" running at once. Programs that need to run in the background, as services, such as those listed here, and like the music player while it is playing music, and closely controlled by Andy. He makes sure things don't get out of control. You really do not have to worry about runtime memory with Android.
