Unhappy Send Contact Info Phone to Phone

    I searched the phone's features.
    I searched the market.
I searched here in the forum. I was able to find one post about the topic, but wasn't that helpful.

Yesterday at work a friend of mine (with a G1) asked me for my number and gmail and stuff. I figured the G1 HAD to have something where I could just beam it from my G1 to his. Especially since I have everything in there, number, address, gmail, gtalk, aim, msn, yahoo handles and everything. I couldn't find anything to beam it over to his phone and he could just save it all in.

The other post's replies suggested copy and pasting the text to SMS and sending. Gay. Every phone I've had in the past I could TXT or BT my info over. Is there something I'm missing or an app that can handle this? Thanks much!

well if he had a g1 and you had a g1, and yall were in the same room. You could use the share contact settings in the barcode scanner.

Basically both of you have to have the scanner, who ever has the contact presses menu from within barcode scanner>share>contact the scanner makes a qr code, and you scan that barcode with the phones barcode scanner and voila!

now if you want to share with somebody who just doesn't happen to have a phone with the capabilities of a checkout lane, I'll look into that for you. Because I don't know myself.

No Sh!t! I didn't know that. Grabbing my G1 to check it out now. That would work great. Thanks!

it is a pretty cool setting just discovered it the other day when I was checking out that mycollection app that requires the barcode scanner.

I still have absolutely no idea how to get stuff into the clipboard option on the barcode scanner sharing option though. but I won't worry about it, not to many people I know have barcode scanners in their possession anyway.

Haha, thats true. But the G1 is probably the most popular phone in our office. There's 4 of us that have it, and I don't think there's more than 1 of any other phone. We're always scanning new stuff to battle in Barcode Beasties. Now they just need a contact exporter via SMS so I can beam my info to anybody else's phone.

Well that was easy enough. I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they said that both of the carriers (Softbank and ... the other one ?) would work with the G1. I just call them when I want my unlock code. They put in the paperwork and send me the unlock code via e-mail. Things are good!

Has any app come out yet that allows us to send a contact to another phone via bluetooth or as an SMS? I read the barcode scanner work around, but 99% of the time I'm not sending a contact to another Android phone.

Small follow on point - Barcode Scanner is encoding data in a standard QR code, using the standard MECARD format. In theory any phone and reader that supports this format can also read and save the contacts, not just Android. Or vice versa.
