Volume button lock for ringtone volume

There is a real issue with the volume buttons being on the side and so easy to accidentally touch while using the phone or handing it to someone. I find I've many missed calls because of this. In reading on other Android/G1 forums, I see this is a common complaint.

It would be fantastic if someone would come up with a quick and easy way for users to lock the ringer volume and/or disable the volume buttons.

Yeah, I've adjusted the volume one or two clicks whilst holding it sideways, but I've always noticed because a. I'm listening to music at the time and therefore notice the volume change or b. it gives me a visual notification, so I know to turn it back up.

Perhaps your phone isn't showing you notifications? If the phone's screen is off it shouldn't be changing the ringer volume anyway, only the music volume (if music is playing).

Same here Gardenwife. A volume lock function would be an awesome idea. Also, while the volume is locked, they can be used as customizable convenience keys too. Make it happens devs, please.

It shows the ringer's volume bar, but I don't always see it. (I need a smiley wearing big glasses, LOL). Sometimes I've put it in my pocket before it automatically times out and locks, and changed the ringer volume while putting it away.

I'd have to agree.

Done this a couple of times in school, turned it from vibrate to ring...

and sometimes even in my pocket, i somehow manage to unlock the phone and play a game with the loudest possible sounds.
