How do I know what class I have?
Mine is an 8gb Microsdhc Kingston
it has a "4" in a circle next to the "SDHC" logo.. is it a class "4"?

size depends on your personal preference. however, if you plan to run apps off your sd card i recommend class 4 and above.

The questions is... does the speed really make a difference on the G1?
Read speed on either class is probably more than enough for the G1 to handle. As for write speed it would theoretically help on apps like the camera but high speed shooting is out of the question since the camera is so slow.
Eh I still ordered a class 6 8GB, never know...

I recently bought an 8gb class 6 trancend microsdhc from newegg and I haven't had any problems yet. Only had it for a couple weeks though but trancend is a pretty good brand IMHO. Maybe not top quality but they do thier job. I've been using a 16gb trancend SD card for extra storage in my netbook for a while now and it works great. I'd get it (obviously) its a good deal.
