It looks like G1 users won't be the only ones with the ability to scan barcodes for very long. Big In Japan has submitted an application to the Apple store and waiting for approval. They are also working on one for the Blackberry Storm. This kind of saddens me
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=97102244ShopSavvy is currently only available for the T-Mobile G1, the first phone to use Google's Android operating system. The company that made ShopSavvy, Dallas-based Big in Japan, said it has submitted an iPhone version to Apple, but it hasn't yet been approved. The problem, it says, is that the camera built into the iPhone doesn't work the way the camera on the G1 does, which makes bar code scanning more difficult on Apple's phone. But Big in Japan says it found a solution to the problem and that as soon as Apple approves the app, it should be available to everyone. Big in Japan is also working on a version of ShopSavvy for the Blackberry Storm phone.

god I keep seeing that sexy gold more-thing Noel case for the iPhone 3g. When will the g1 get a more-thing case?
It may brighten your day to know that the iphone version won't be nearly as sexy as the G1 version. Don't get me wrong, I'd like it to be just as good, but the non-open sdk and the fixed focal length camera on the 3G make that almost impossible.
As far as the BB storm version, no idea how that's going to turn out, that project is just getting off the ground.

the iphone has already got barcode scanners, they got round about 12 lol. they have had barcode scanners for ages
can't blame the developers for trying to get paid. At least we got it first and the best version from the sound of things.
I can see Shopsavvy working well on the Storm because of the 3.2mp auto focus camera, but I have my doubt that it would work well with the 2.0mp fixed focus camera on the iPhone.
