    Default Hacking the I7500

I was reading another post when this cam to mind- most of the people who have been hacking the G1 hae come over from xda (HTC) rather than android, so do people think there will be anything like as much mod-work done on the I7500, or any non HTC model for that matter?

    I would think so...

My predictions with android based gadgets (laptops, phones, pdas, etc) is that the platform will nearly be universal. Those developers working on the I7500, their work will transfer to the G1 easily and vice versa. That's just my prediction... I mean, look, we're getting the Magic and Hero builds onto the G1 now, so I'd imagine it's all going to be transparent.

I believe its similar to the difference between a dell and an hp running windows whatever...

Most of the hacking is for the os, so yes it will cross over...

On a side note is xda htc specific? If so I had never noticed that...

yeah, xda is the european name for HTC devices, up until the Magic, and a few others like the touch/diamond.

But what I meant was - to get anything onto the phone, like the hero rom's that are being talked about atm, you will need root access, and finding that is all about the specific hardware. And there seems to be a lot of HTC knowlege/people, but I'm not sure if any of that will carry over to any other models

    Well I don't know now....
I would think (in theory) any device running android could exploit the security hole that allows root, but... at what expense I have no idea...

I actually came to this forum to post this same exact question. How long will it be before the I7500 is "owned"

I plan on makin this my next phone, unsubsidized. That way I can always use my upgrade to scoop the Hero later this year (if me and the I7500 have a fallin out)

I remember the Hero getting a lot of crap the first time we saw a thread on it, I think mainly because it was pink at the time. Now everyone wants it.
