Trying to help a friend out... Samsung Moment question

Hi:
A friend of mine just got a Samsung Moment. Is there any easy way to insert smilies. He is VERY un-tech savvy, so I figured I would help him find an answer. I use an HTC Touch Pro 2, so my knowledge of Android is non-existent.

Also, is there anywhere to look for apps etc (like xda for HTC phones). I am specifically looking for any recommendation of programs that will continuously give the updated price of gold.

just use the : ( ; ) keys is all i know. like old school aim

Yeah, that's what I have to do on my TP2, but my friend is 58 years old, and it's his first PPC, and he claims he will never remember what the symbols are, so I was hoping there was some other way, or an add on.

Also when typeing a text hit the menu button and the option for inserting smileys is there.
