    @david...that's not necessary to post all that. honestly, i didn't even read most of it. if you read my tutorial carefully, and you're stuck at a spot, tell me specifically what you need help with and i'll be glad to help. i helped someone restore their phone for over 2 hours the other night on yahoo.

    @lazy yes,skip it.

    hey guys. So I'm trying to register my phone in RC29 so I can root. And I have adb going. I got the usb drivers installed and all. But in the command prompt when I type adb shell, then hit enter, i get a "$". I have no clue what this means, but I'm aware that I should have a "#". So I dont know what I did wrong. I typed "su", hit enter and it tells me "su: permission denied". Can someone help me out? I just did a really fasat search and couldnt find anything, so sorry if its been mentioned.

    When i tried to restore the backup, i got a "waiting for device" when i tried to do a fastboot flash system system.img. Confused??? cus when i tried last night, it worked like a charm, but i did update my spl this morning to 1.33.2005. Last time it was the older spl.

    I think if you did a new spl you'll have to reinstall the drivers, I believe a new spl would make the computer think the phone is a different device.

    Maybe. But i just did it by the recovery console, since it can restore the nandroid backup. Much easier to do.

    okay this was indeed a fantastic and very simple tutorial.. im so inpired by this site and all the info in the threads im going to make an ULTRA EASY FOR DUMMIES tutorial and explain all the things that i got stuck on and all the things that were left out of the DOZENS of tutorials and threads i read. too bad im late getting into the G1 arena as there will probably be something new out this fall and G1 will no longer be officially supported.

    one thing missing from this great tutorial is when installed the 64 bit drivers in Vista64 for example you must restart the computer b/c you will get an error that says the file is in use after having to wait a REALLY long time when manually adding the driver. Also it is NOT mentioned that the phone must be in FASTBOOT mode already when you plug it into the PC so that you get an entry called Android 1.0 in the device manager.. it is THIS entry (Android 1.0) that the USB drivers in the SDK folder are needed for. after that you can connect to adb shell with ease and all the other things become possible. i love this phone!
