    Ok my apologies for the stupidity of this question (as I've only just begun to learn this stuff), but I got as far as this: after typing in the first batch of commands as instructed in my laptop's c-prompt, I got the following encouraging message:
    * daemon started successfully *
    Sadly, it was followed by this, less encouraging message:
    ** daemon still not runningerror: cannot connect to daemon
    If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, some guidance would be greatly appreciated! .... and to think I was convinced that the hard part was over, having gotten rid of my .00006 perfect SPL!
    Thanks for your time and all of your inspired work!
    Cheers

    make sure your sdcard is NOT mounted to the pc. did you install the usb drivers properly from the 1.5 sdk? does adb interface show up in device manager when you plug your phone in to pc?

    one thing missing from this great tutorial is when installed the 64 bit drivers in Vista64 for example you must restart the computer b/c you will get an error that says the file is in use after having to wait a REALLY long time when manually adding the driver. Also it is NOT mentioned that the phone must be in FASTBOOT mode already when you plug it into the PC so that you get an entry called Android 1.0 in the device manager.. it is THIS entry (Android 1.0) that the USB drivers in the SDK folder are needed for. after that you can connect to adb shell with ease and all the other things become possible. i love this phone!
    i could have sworn that was in there. you sure? i'll have to check it. but i do know that if your phone is already plugged in and you boot to recovery\fastboot,it will not register on your pc. i'll edit my tut if it's not in there. thanks.

    edit....it was already in there....
    quote from my unedited tutorial " unmount your phone from the pc and unplug it. power down your phone. hold camera and press power to start into bootloader\fastboot mode. depending on which spl you have,you might have to hit the back button to get to the fastboot screen. make sure it say's fastboot on your phone screen. now,plug the phone into your pc."

    it was already in there.

    I think ADB should be compatible w/ any Android device, provided the driver is installed.
