There have been a lot of rumors lately about the highly anticipated HTC Dream phone that is Android-powered. Now it is official, AT&T confirmed today that it plans to launch the second Android mobile phone made by Foxconn. The spokesman for Foxconn, did not give any further details on the launch date.
AT&T today confirmed that AT&T will be the second carrier to offer a smartphone based on Google Android OS. Foxconn (in China, the manufacturer of Apple iPhone) has manufactured the smartphone -- currently known as the AndDream/G2-- based on a Qualcomm chipset.
Rumored to offer a smart touchscreen interface, Bluetooth2.0+EDR and Wi-Fi, the AndDream passed through FCC on Sep.12. AT&T customers in the U.S. are likely to be among the first ones to get a taste of the AndDream. By choosing AT&T first, the Google Android OS can also rapidly spread to other major European markets.
So what should we expect from the AndDream? A lot, when taking the hardware partners into account. Foxconn, HTC, Qualcomm and AT&T have been working together for a long time on Windows Mobile smartphones. AT&T and Foxconn is also known for their user-friendly tweaks to Microsoft's offering.

IHMO, if I wanted to be a slave for 2 years on AT&Ts spy network, I would've bought the iPhone months ago.
That being said, I'm happy about Android if this is true though. But, the phone looks just like every other slider phone out there, with not much appeal to the great new revolutionary operating system it runs. And if Foxconn makes the iPhones, why can't they put little more thought on pretty hardware design for a whole new class of phones?

T-Mobile US Stock Rom & Android Froyo 2.2 FRG33 (mccm); LinPack 38MP; Quadrant 1750
I don't know how this works, but can ATT and Foxconn participate in the rollout if they are not part of the open handset alliance?
