Android sucks now. No multitasking. Really slow.

I consider myself a power user. I've had all kinds of devices...iPhones, Sidekicks, etc. And the G1 was great too, but after the cupcake update everything started to go down hill.

Android is so slow now and there really is no multitasking.

Go to a moderate to big webpage. Then go check a text message. When you come back to the browser it reloads the page all over again! Totally unacceptable. Same thing with other apps...it seems like Cupcake takes up so much memory that now apps can't stay loaded. This is particularly annoying when I load up a web page to read on the train only to find out that it needs to reload when I'm underground.

I'm truly sick of it. I can't get anything done on Android anymore. Even last night...I was using Google's SkyMap application to check out Jupiter. Then I had to send a text message. When I went back to SkyMap it had to reload all over again.

I find myself spending more time sitting around waiting for things to load now that I have Cupcake.

This device is just too damn slow now. And I'm sure there are plently of people who know what I mean. The web browser is rediculously slow and the constant reloading of pages is just a complete waste.

I'm thinking of going over the Palm Pre. I really don't want too, but I'm losing valuable time and productivity. Android is a toy now. I can't even use it to get work done like I used to.

The Sidekick wasn't the greatest device in the world but it was fast fast fast. I could load up a page in the browser, come back two days later, and it would still there....readable! Plus you could switch between applications so fast.

The G1 is basically useless now, unless you're a single-app user. Other than that...get a cup of coffee because you're gonna be waiting around a lot.

I'm bummed out....but what can you do. Google doesn't give a crap.

are you rooted ? root your phone , you will enjoy it much more . you can overclock to fix your issue(somewhat , not the browser) and you can use compcache/linux swap on some roms(to take care of the reloading problem) . plus a ton of more stuff/reasons why you would be happy with a rooted phone .

Blah Blah Blah, another user that doesn't know how to maintain his/her phone and thinks his/her rant is actually going to make anyone switch to a different phone.

Now, if you would like to reevaluate android, there is actually a lot, and I mean a lot, you can do to make this phone better. We can help you make your phone faster and more useful than a pre could ever be.

First off, do you have any task killing programs? If you don't, get one. You will notice a remarkable increase in speed. Second, root your phone and install a faster rom.

my g1 is quick and very responsive. maybe it's because im rooted and modded. cyan's rom.

You use your phone for work? sucks that you have to work, even on your phone lol. I use my phone for fun.

Palm pre? good luck with that haha. I had a few friends that had palm pres. they all returned it cuz it sucked. 2 of them even switched to a g1 and love it!

my g1 was fast when i wasnt rooted, and now it's even faster and smoother (plus ruinning drizzy's hero v3 full). I'm very satisfied with rooting my phone, and it should be essential that all g1 users root their phones, to make the best out of it that is =D

Guys, look it clearly was a suicide note, a write then never look back type of thing. If he's such a work alcoholic, 1. Why didn't he mention anything about using a blackberry? and I guess I'll keep my points small 2. Who takes 2 days on one web page?

I understand the fact it will be there later is neat I really enjoyed that on my wing but for most of his problems, it doesn't even require root. Haha.

1.Download Handsent and enable sms popup, this actually doesn't make anything auto refresh, I've used it to reply in the market, browser, anywhere anytime.
and 2. If he's such a heavy cpu user why can't he figure out he needs an app killer to handle his stuff.

Why the hell should I have to root my phone? Is this not a production device? There are obviously many others who have this same issue, as indicated by the links I posted, which you obviously didn't read, so I would appreciate not being called a "ranter" or dismissed.

So, is that the answer? In order to use the G1 I have to root and overclock my phone?

That's lame. It might be fine for someone, but I want a phone that works. Not one that I have to hunt the net for ROMs and spend half the day installing rogue programs because Google doesn't know how to develop a true multitasking phone.

And why the hell do I care about people switching? No where in my post did I try to make anyone switch. I'm simply trying to find out answers.

But apparently, most people on this board have a GED at best, and a tenuous grasp of the english language.
